400G to 800G Data Center Link Upgrade
Plan a 400G to 800G upgrade and data-center migration across topology, form factor, reach, cabling, breakout, thermal and compatibility constraints.
400G to 800G migration is not a module swap
The move to 800G changes host ports, electrical interfaces, module power, thermal limits, PMD and cabling. Define which links upgrade and which 400G links remain.
Spine and AI fabric often lead
Bandwidth pressure often appears first in Spine and AI-fabric links while node and Leaf layers continue using 100G, 200G or 400G.
Form factor and cabling shape delivery
OSFP, QSFP-DD, MPO, LC and CS affect host support, cooling, patching, inventory and field maintenance.
Select optical direction by reach
Evaluate direct attach, MMF, parallel SMF or WDM SMF only after confirming the actual fiber plant and host capability.
Define breakout boundaries
2x400G or lower-rate breakout requires an explicit host mode, matching module architecture, cable mapping, FEC and every remote endpoint.
Validate in rollout stages
Use lab samples, limited field rollout and batch acceptance with traceable host, software, module, cabling and result records.
