Frequently asked questions

Which low-speed SFP matches my legacy port?

The series covers 155M, 1.25G, 2.5G, 2.67G and copper directions, with SX at roughly 550m, LX at 10km and single-mode directions reaching up to 120km. The same SFP cage carries Ethernet, Fibre Channel and SDH/SONET rates, so the host port protocol and line rate have to be confirmed, not just the connector.

Will a 1G SFP module work in a 10G SFP+ port?

Often yes, but it is a per-platform question. Many SFP+ ports accept a 1G SFP module once the port is explicitly configured for 1G, while some restrict it to particular ports or software versions. Confirm on the target platform before planning a mixed-rate access layer.

What do I specify for a CWDM, DWDM or BiDi low-speed link?

The wavelength or channel per link, plus any MUX, DEMUX or OADM already in the path. WDM modules are ordered per channel and two units on different channels will not pass traffic to each other. BiDi units must be ordered as matched pairs because the two ends use complementary wavelengths.
