OSFP vs QSFP-DD: 800G Form-Factor Comparison

Compare OSFP and QSFP-DD by host cage, port density, power, thermal design, optical PMD, cabling and operations.

OSFP vs QSFP-DD power and thermal comparison

OSFP and QSFP-DD are different host form factors. The host cage, lane mode, power limit, airflow and management support determine the starting boundary.

Density includes serviceability

Compare full front-panel layout, insertion space, cable bend radius and adjacent-port temperature rather than module dimensions alone.

Test thermal behavior at density

Open-bench link-up does not represent a populated switch. Record power, temperature, FEC, errors and flap under sustained traffic.

PMD is separate from host form

SR8, DR8 and 2xFR4 use different fibers, connectors and optical architectures even when packaged as OSFP or QSFP-DD.

Breakout requires explicit support

Optical lane count does not guarantee host breakout. Confirm lane mode, cable mapping, remote PMD and FEC.

Build one equipment-module-cabling list

Record host, software, port mode, reach, fiber, connector, FEC, power, temperature, quantity and delivery target.
