Product overview

400G QSFP-DD DR4 is designed for 500m links using MPO-12. Selection must confirm the host form factor, electrical interface, PMD, FEC, fiber mapping, power and thermal limits, software version and the remote endpoint; the model name alone does not establish interoperability.

  • QSFP-DD DR4 form factor for the defined host-port direction.

  • MPO-12 interface for 500m links.

  • Parallel single-mode optical transmission; confirm the exact fiber or cable assembly before ordering.

  • Validate host coding, FEC, diagnostics, power, thermal behavior and long-duration stability.

Selection and deployment notes

  • Before ordering 400G QSFP-DD DR4, confirm the exact host, software, port mode, reach, fiber or cable, connector, FEC, temperature, quantity, compatibility coding and delivery version.

Selection FAQ

400G QSFP-DD DR4 selection questions

Can 400G QSFP-DD DR4 break out into lower-rate links?

Only if the host supports it. The parallel lanes on MPO-12 can be split toward lower-rate ports, but the source port has to be configured for that breakout mode and every branch port must accept the resulting rate. Confirm the port mode on the target platform first: the cable alone does not create a breakout.

How does 400G QSFP-DD DR4 differ from a duplex single-mode module at the same rate?

400G QSFP-DD DR4 spreads its lanes across parallel fiber on MPO-12, so it needs a parallel trunk and suits breakout planning. A duplex option carries the same rate over one fiber pair on LC, which fits structured cabling that was never built for parallel trunks. The two are not interchangeable even though both are single-mode.

What do I need to specify to request a quote for 400G QSFP-DD DR4?

Give the host vendor, model and software version at both ends, the QSFP-DD port or lane mode, the operating temperature range, the quantity per site and the target delivery date. For 400G QSFP-DD DR4 also state whether the link stays at full rate or breaks out and which MPO-12 trunk is already installed. Compatibility is confirmed per platform, so the host details matter as much as the optical specification.
