400G QSFP-DD SR8 is designed for 100m OM4 links using MPO-16. Selection must confirm the host form factor, electrical interface, PMD, FEC, fiber mapping, power and thermal limits, software version and the remote endpoint; the model name alone does not establish interoperability.
Selection FAQ
The specification lists 100m OM4. Multimode reach is bounded by modal bandwidth, so the fiber grade already in the ground decides the usable distance rather than the module. Re-check the loss budget whenever patch panels or splices sit in the path.
The same PMD, the same fiber grade, and MPO-16 polarity and lane order. Parallel multimode links such as 400G QSFP-DD SR8 fail in confusing ways when polarity is wrong: the port may show light without ever coming up, so verify the trunk type before troubleshooting the module.
Give the host vendor, model and software version at both ends, the QSFP-DD port or lane mode, the operating temperature range, the quantity per site and the target delivery date. For 400G QSFP-DD SR8 also state the installed fiber grade, the MPO-16 trunk type and the measured link distance. Compatibility is confirmed per platform, so the host details matter as much as the optical specification.
